LandScan ™ is a database of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to estimate the global population. Using an innovative approach with the Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing, LandScanTM became the international standard for the distribution World Population.
L e earthquake occurred at 8:05:31 p.m. GMT (5:05:31 p.m. local time) off the coast of central Chile, according to the institute. In early January, an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude occurred in central Chile, in the interior, 171 km south of Concepcion. On 27 February 2010, central Chile had been the scene of a very strong earthquake of magnitude 8.8 followed by a tsunami that claimed over 500 lives and destroyed entire villages. The damage was estimated at 30 billion dollars (22.5 billion euros).
