César Bunster "We were sure to kill Pinochet

César Bunster Ariztia Chilean Communist Party leader

J 'I studied sociology at University of Birmingham, England, because my father was appointed ambassador by Salvador Allende in 1971. I graduated in 1982. I could never use it! After the military coup, my father spent some time in England and then went to Mexico to teach law at the University Unam. There was one criminal lawyers who defended the thesis of international jurisprudence concerning Pinochet.

I joined the Communist Youth in 1976, in exile in England. In 1977 the Chilean central committee of the PC did for the first time a self-critical, speaking of " vacío histórico (historical vacuum) to About little reaction to the coup of Pinochet, 11 September 1973. In 1980, he adopted the policy of "mass popular rebellion " and decreed, some time later, 1986 as a "decisive year " to the "national uprising . The country was shaken by major strikes, the FPMR and the accompanying military actions of support.

In 1982 I moved to Mexico, and worked at the Canadian Embassy. In 1983, I followed Cuba a six-month training in the clandestine struggle with other activists. We can not emphasize enough the internationalism of the Cuban revolution ... We do not know, use us nicks in an atmosphere of great camaraderie, brotherhood, ideal. In 1985, I went to Nicaragua, I fought the mercenaries of the Contras, with the Sandinistas. I then entered legally in Chile, still in 1985 to join the Front, with experience in Cuba and Nicaragua. The plan of attack against Pinochet was designed by the CCP leadership. The majority of fighters were FPMR Communists, some miristes (Mir) and non-party had completed the ranks.

In Latin America, at first glance, we recognize the social class of people, so I was instructed to play the bourgeois. I worked at the reception of the Canadian Embassy in Santiago, a guarantee of respectability. My fake wife, mining social middle class, was the beautiful Cecilia Magni (Comandante Tamara), but in fact it was my head. She realized sabotage, like the bridge of Talca, the bank robberies (Providencia etc..). She was tortured and murdered later, with his group the Front " Autonomous (split RMSF) in October 1988 after the attack and capture the village of Los Quans in a mountainous area. She was captured while trying to escape the military encirclement. His body was found on 28, alongside that of his companion and leader of the Front, Raúl Pellegrin Friedman, in the river Tinguiririca ... The media spoke of " drowning, while trying to escape! She had a broken spine ... With Tamara we were the couple "beautiful" perfect, young, rich and above all suspicion, residing in the middle-class neighborhood of La Obra.

I was twenty-eight years. The attack was to take place a week earlier, but Pinochet was rushed back from his vacation spot Sunday because of the death of former president Alessandri. We found that every Friday night, Pinochet went to his villa in Cajon de Maipo, residential area facing Bizcachas tired, just outside of Santiago to the south-east, and he came back every Sunday at the same time. The Cubans we had delivered on two occasions, tons of weapons, mainly North American, explosives, machine guns M-16, grenades, etc.. By the wearing of Carrizal Bajo, in northern Chile; the second shipment was discovered (Case arsenals) by the CIA and the Chilean CNI (Central Nacional de Informaciones) Pinochet's army was able to grasp much different repositories, August 6, 1986.

At Cajon del Maipo, we had dug a tunnel (discovered after the attack by the security services) and a pit for 800 kilos of explosives TNT, modeled on the attack against Carrero Blanco by ETA. But the filing of two tons of TNT also fell into the hands of the police, a few weeks before the attack. To successfully attack, he had sophisticated weapons and TNT. It was not possible. So we had to opt for the scheme of the ambush. Instead of RPG 7 rocket launchers, Soviet-made, they had used old U.S. LAW, probably from the Vietnam War, parts sealed and therefore could not be verified. Most LAW, faulty batteries, did not work.

On Sunday, September 7th, 1986 at 6:00 p.m., the convoy that brought Pinochet - two motorcycles, three armored Mercedes with tinted windows ... (eight vehicles total) - was blocked by a caravan that we had implementation across the floor. The operation, called Siglo XX, planned to destroy the convoy. Along the procession, a score of " fusileros (snipers), including a woman, were arranged so as to reach all vehicles. Two motorcyclists opened the way; one managed to escape. Custody of Pinochet, surprise, reacted only weakly, and some gorillas preferred even throw in a vacuum rather than fight. Two vehicles were destroyed (five deaths), but Pinochet was driving the car, an officer and his little son, load, inadequate, failed to break the glass. The driver was able to identify the Mercedes in reverse and go back to the place whence he came. None of the guerrillas was not injured, though some were captured, tortured and murdered later, Chile and even abroad (Ricardo Palma, Mauricio Norambuena ...). Since I had rented the house that my name was the headquarters, the three cars, etc.., My family name and photograph were circulated immediately and remained for a long time the only evidence known to the police. The party made me leave the country the same day my head was a price. The people, for the most part, reacted to the attack with great joy and even disbelief at the news. Some even thought it was a " autogolpe " us, we were convinced we could not fail. On television, the evening, Pinochet declared that the impact of the projectile on the glass was the image of the Virgin protective " Una Huevada! "(one of his antics)!

dictator Pinochet watch television divine protection. proof is the apparition of the Virgin Mary the window of his car during the attack which took his life.
I spent some time in Argentina and elsewhere. Then, in Chile, the death penalty was abolished, replaced by life imprisonment, and prescription of crimes established after fifteen years without offense, and on condition that they resided on Chilean soil. I'm back in my country illegally rather quickly. I had to take the name of my half-brother, who lived abroad, Pablo Enrique Miriel Aritzia, and change your look: glasses, beard, the party curling my hair every three months, etc.. Since I had a good level in English, I became a professional translator and interpreter. I even translated document exchange policies between English and Chilean governments, especially during the arrest of Pinochet in London in November 1998 and was detained in house arrest total of 503 days. I also worked for the British Embassy Chancery, for the United States! I was the interpreter of Lord Norman Lamont when the Foundation invited Pinochet in Chile. I was a translator quoted by politicians.

In January 2004, I came out of hiding and asked the "prescription" of the crime, she was granted by Judge Humberto Villavivencio. Enrique Cesar Bunster Miriel is back, and my children then discovered was really their father.

After "retirement" of Pinochet, the Party has abandoned the military strategy, given that the political framework had changed. A small group continued the armed struggle. The approach of the CCP has never been militaristic. Front Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic accompanied the major national protests of the 1980s, repressed in blood, he served as a sort of self-defense. It has a military couple and a fighting spirit front against dictatorship. The actions of the Front were never large, so as not to cut people.

In 2005, Chilean newspapers have tried to portray me as a terrorist, even making a photomontage making me wear a hood, I who have always lived openly, and sometimes makeup!

I've never considered a hero, sometimes I was afraid that one day in combat in Nicaragua, I could not even drool ... but there are circumstances which require the Resistance at home that they can risk death for life. The Communists have made great pages of the twentieth century. It is urgent to recover and live out this memory. "

in Santiago, Chile

We met César Bunster Santiago, Chile, the Chilean Communist Party, the Rincon (corner) of Neruda, a drink of the formidable and yet so captivating Pisco (the national drink). The man, smart, affable, courteous, cultivated, did not look like a terrorist, but rather a sophisticated executive who is unaware that he spent all morning at the counter entries Day , O'Higgins Park. Cesar Bunster was the cover and a key organizer of the failed attempt against Pinochet, September 7, 1986, by Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front, named after the patriot lawyer guerilla officer who worked tirelessly for the independence of Chile, a real popular myth. The FPMR was founded by the Communist Party in December 1983. From the first hours following the attack, César Bunster was nominally challenged and became the man to capture "dead or alive," forced to eighteen years in hiding, stalking. Yet he insists that we as "one among others."
