R einaldo Sepulveda, who directed the television broadcast live, confirmed to The Associated Press (AP) who had never tried to hide what was happening inside the mine by using the loop sequences shown throughout the broadcast .
In his book "Men 33," author Jonathan Franklin says that a cable was severed in the wake of a landslide during the rescue operation. He says the world has ever known since pre-recorded images were broadcast instead. He wrote that " a billion viewers were fooled .
Reinaldo Sepulveda has denied these allegations, which are "absolutely false " arguing that he was ready to "show 38 or 40 hours of transmission " which "have never been cut . He assured that everything was live.
However, it is true that the Chilean engineers had to work hard to dismantle a fiber optic cable they intended to use in the capsule. With this technology, the miners would have possibly been able to communicate while traveling to nearly a kilometer was lead them to the surface.
No explanation for that had been provided in the immediate future, but members of the rescue team had said later that the communication system adds an element of complexity that was not necessary and that the miners did not want it anyway.
A minor, Omar Reygadas, added another detail about this on Monday. He told the AP that a landslide had cut the fiber optic cable just before it was rescued. That is why, he said that his entry into the capsule was not filmed.
Mr. Reygadas has also denied, in a telephone interview that the miners had suicidal thoughts, or thought they had to fall back on cannibalism to survive.
According to him, these two statements are very black humor of Chileans and they would not have been taken seriously.
One of his colleagues, Victor Zamora said on air the program "60 Minutes " that during the first 17 days following the collapse of the mine, miners thought to be locked in a closed room and let it run the engine of a machine so you can die in peace with a carbon monoxide poisoning.
" I never thought about that and I never talked " launched Reygadas Omar, arguing that Victor Zamora was joking.
" When Victor speaks, you can never tell if he is joking or serious. But it's the first I've heard of it. "
